In Ontario, patients often face considerable wait times to access a primary care physician; this delayed care can lead to frustration with the health system and suboptimal health outcomes such as greater risk of morbidity and mortality in patients with cancer and heart conditions and deterioration in condition among patients with mental health issues and work injuries. Only 44% of Ontarians have access to same or next day appointments, with the same number reporting access to care on evenings or weekends without having to go to an emergency department.

The Ontario Workers Network (OWN) provides an Enhanced Access Program for innovative virtual care delivery models for injured workers to enhance their entry into the WSIB continuum of health care programs.
